Why I Work with College Students

I came to this work not just through training, but through my own experience, and as the founder of Off-Campus Counseling, that perspective is at the heart of everything.

As a college student, I remember what it felt like to carry so much beneath the surface—pressure to succeed, uncertainty about the future, and questions about identity and belonging that didn’t always have clear answers. From the outside, I appeared to be doing well. Inside, there were moments that felt overwhelming and isolating.

What I needed most during that time was space to be honest, to feel, and to make sense of things without judgment. That experience shaped not only who I became, but the kind of therapist I strive to be.

Now, as a therapist, and as a parent of children growing through the teen and college years, my understanding of this stage of life continues to deepen. I see how much young people are holding: the pressure, the transitions, the self-doubt, and also the hope and possibility.

Working with college students feels especially meaningful because this is such a pivotal time. It’s a period of growth and discovery, but also one that can feel overwhelming and uncertain. In creating Off-Campus Counseling, I’ve been intentional about creating a space where students can show up as they are, without pressure to have everything figured out; a place where they feel heard, supported, and understood.

This is more than a professional focus for me. It’s a genuine passion rooted in empathy, understanding, and a belief that no student should have to navigate these challenges alone.

Education & Experience

I received my Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies from Cornell University and my Master of Social Work from New York University.

I have been practicing as a psychotherapist since 2002, working with college students, young adults, and adults across a variety of settings. My experience includes both short-term and long-term therapy, as well as supporting individuals through more acute challenges, including crisis situations.

I have also worked within a college counseling center, which has given me a deep understanding of the unique pressures students face academically, socially, and personally.

This breadth of experience allows me to meet students with a wide range of needs, providing thoughtful, informed, and supportive care.

Approach

My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and non-judgmental. We start wherever you are and work together to better understand your experiences, patterns, and goals. Along the way, I integrate practical tools and strategies you can use in your daily life, while also creating space for deeper reflection and growth.

I draw from evidence-based approaches, including cognitive-behavioral and insight-oriented therapies, and tailor the process to fit your individual needs. Whether you’re looking for support through a specific challenge or a space to explore things more deeply, therapy is designed to meet you where you are and help you move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
